First, it started with the Wonder Girls. But their song “Tell Me” was catchy, and that damn dance was, too. Then, Korea came out with Girls’ Generation, which also can only be taken as a positive development. After all, after the embarrassing debacle with disgraced Korean scientist Hwang Woo-suk, the success of Girls’ Generation redeemed Korea in the eyes of the world — here it was, proof positive that human cloning was a viable reality! They didn’t call it “Girls’ Generation” for nothing, knowwhuddamean?
But this is a bridge too far. The skirts have now come up above the panties. I mean, I know that competition from the many girl groups that now exist must force some serious marketing decisions such as the one to make underage girls truss around in skirts that don’t cover their jibblies, but you gotta draw a line somewhere! I mean, the next logical stage of Korean girl group evolution, considering the trends towards younger performers, more exposed skin, and more members, will yield us a group of naked elementary school girls (5th-grade and above, of course, since we can’t go too young!), performing on stage 20-members-strong. I can imagine the debut now:
"Laaaaadies and gentlemen! Introducing Korea’s newest girl group sensation — No Panties!" (Raucous cheering and thunderous applause ensue.)
Seriously — it’s the only logical step left, right?
DIAPER FASHION?! Come on.
Girl’s Day’s stage outfits have drawn much controversy from the public.
Videos of the group’s performances have recently appeared on online community sites. The girls performed while wearing short yellow outfits, which revealed their white underpants, coining the term ‘diaper fashion’.
The inappropriately cut outfits have gathered negative comments from much of the public. Netizens brought up that many of the members are still fairly young and the revealing outfits were even too much for the audience to see.
Girl’s Day’s Minah was born in 1993, and Hyeri was born in 1994 and is still underage. Yura just turned 20 as she was born in 1992.
Netizens have criticized the idols’ stylist and commented, “How can they wear such clothes and perform?”, “Is this part of marketing?”, “Two of the members are still underage…This was too much“.
